Sumatra Lake Toba and Mount Sibayak

For a long weekend getaway, this active sightseeing tour of North Sumatra is highly recommended.  Providing a refreshing perspective of nature and a taste of mountain hiking in Indonesia, it's the prefect introduction to "Adventure Indonesia".

The first major highlight of this trip is Danau (Lake) Toba which is the largest lake in Southeast Asia, covering an area of 1707 sq km.  Located in its center is Samosir Island which is the center of the Batak Toba culture and here we can visit the local villages to see their traditional roofed houses, ancient royal stone tomb, ancient institutes such as the royal house & court house as well as the executionary ground. This is also a great place to practice your bargaining skills if you want to buy local-made souvenirs! Enjoy the warm, laid-back ambience that is characteristic of the island and its people.

Our next highlight is Brastagi Highland and the bonuses are the interesting stops en route: Simarjarunjung Hill, a lovely viewpoint where you can relax and feast your eyes on the magnificent views of greater part of Lake Toba; the magnificent Sipiso Piso Falls with its fantastic stream of water plunging 120m from the side of a cave of the Lake Toba caldera - the highest waterfall in North Sumatra; and Tongging with its finger-clicking camera view of Lake Toba from its top.

Our last highlight literally bring us to a high as we take a hike up to Mt. Sibayak at 2212m asl, a stratovolcano overlooking the town of Brastagi.  Worry not as it is an easy hike to the outer rim where you can enjoy the some great views and the solitude.

After our uplifting tour of sights, mind and soul, we're again back to Medan where we can explore some of its interesting local sights before catching our flight home !
